Week 2 · Bank: opening an account (B or D?)
B, D and E sound almost the same across a desk. That is why people say "D as in dog" — listen for the word after "as in".
Read the sentences below, then practice the whole lesson with audio.
- 1Hi, do you have an appointment with us?
- 2No, I'd just like to open an account.
- 3No problem. Have a seat, and I'll be right with you.
- 4Can I see a photo ID?
- 5Sure, here's my passport.
- 6Great. And something that shows where you live?
- 7I've got my lease. Will that work?
- 8That works. Hang on, the address doesn't match.
- 9On the form, you wrote apartment four B.
- 10But your lease says four D.
- 11Sorry, it's D, as in dog. My mistake.
- 12No worries. I'll fix it right here.
- 13Do you want to set up online banking while you're here?
- 14Yes, please. And when will my card come?
- 15In about a week. Until then, you can use the app.
