- 1Quiet, everyone — today's science test has a bit of danger in it.
- 2All this apparatus has a use — but touch nothing for now.
- 3First observation: the white powder is dry, and the acid is not.
- 4We put a drop of acid on the powder and wait for the reaction.
- 5See that? The mixed substance is turning green — write that down.
- 6Keep the two liquids separate, or the effect will be very different.
- 7Don't get the paste on your fingers — it's sticky and it burns.
- 8The glass is getting hot — is that right?
- 9The scale says twice the mass we need — take some out.
- 10Now a match — one small flame under the glass, and we watch.
- 11Watch the expansion — the warm air inside needs more room.
- 12Too much heat and the glass may burst — go up one degree at a time.
- 13Never put your nose over the bottle — some smells are poison.
- 14And — there it goes! That, everyone, is why we do small tests first.
- 15Chemical science is safe when you go slow — and now you've seen why.
